In a book you can fold the pages in such a way that it becomes a figure on the front side. We call this bookart. There are several ways to do this and the different techniques will be treated in 9 parts on this website. Join us when we explain an example folding a simple figure. Only by doing exercises the results are getting better, even if the pattern is going to be complicated.
In this first step, the preparation and what you need as accesoires. A work of art
We start with a book. In the first example, you can use a simple pocket book. This is because we first use a simple pattern where only a few pages are to be fold.
For larger work you need more pages and the book should carry that weight when standing. Then a hardback cover is better! So you better start saving books that have a hard cover!
You also need a ruler and some tape for taping it on the table, along with the pattern that you need in the form of printed A4 sheets.
To work on a easy base paste the pattern on the table so you can go down with your book from above along the pattern. The bar or ruler is on the right side. Besides the pattern. The position of the ruler is adjusted using the book and pattern.
To start you also need the pattern. Click here to open the pdf with bookart small hart and print it on a A4paper and then we can start folding as appearing in Part 2
The figure on the pattern comes normally in the middle of the book. So put the book on the pattern so that the figure approximately is in the middle. Then paste the bar fixed on the table right next to the book and parallel to the paper.
Then we can start folding in the book. This is described in Bookart 2 - Folding a simple pattern
